Introduction to First Aid Workshop
Up to 40,000 cardiac arrests occur each year in Canada. That's one cardiac arrest every 12 minutes. 7,000 of these happen in Ontario. Without rapid and appropriate treatment, most of these
cardiac arrests will result in death. Thousands of lives could be saved through public access to automated external defibrillators.(AED)
As many as 85% of all cardiac arrests occur in homes and public places (Vaillancourt & Stiell ).
After more than 12 minutes of ventricular fibrillation, the survival rate from cardiac arrest is less than 5% (Hazinski et al, 2004).
For every 1 minute delay in defibrillation, the survival rate of a cardiac arrest victim decreases by 7% to 10% (Larsen et al, 1993).
Combined with CPR, the use of an AED may increase the likelihood of survival
by 75% or more (Weisfeldt et al, 2010).
AEDs are simple to use and incorporate voice prompts to "walk" the user through the process.
Rapid defibrillation and effective CPR can save the life of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) victim.

Hi Kieran
Just a quick note to say thanks so much for the awesome class that you presented this week! I cannot begin to tell you how much I learned. I have taken numerous courses over the years through my company. They were good but not nearly as informative as yours.
I can honestly say that I feel completely comfortable (for the first time) with the tools that you have given me, that if I should have the misfortune of coming across and accident, that I could be of great assistance. Thank you!"

Safety is the number one priority for us at Nestle Waters Canada, the efforts to increase awareness and participation from our employees have created a major impact in the culture of our business. Prevention and Readiness are part of our commitment to continuously improve nor only our operation but the health and safety of our employees, business partners and stakeholders.
First Aid training, CPR and AED have been identified as key areas of focus in our Safety Program, and for that we decided to work with an experienced and practical provider. The decision to work with K. & L. Health Care consultants Inc. is being deemed the "best" by all the employees that have attended the training in the past few years. ( over 50% of our work force)
Kieran and his team have developed a training methodology that is engaging, entertaining, highly educative, very professional and most important very real. The richness of their experience and the way in how they share such experience make the training session and unforgettable experience to all the attendees.
We are hoping that none of us will ever have to use the skills taught by K. & L. Health Care Consultants Inc.. However, we are confident that should we ever need to do so, we will know well how to respond, because the training was experiential and effective.

Hi Kieran:
I wanted to thank you and Kristin for your excellent Standard First Aid course you provided at Eastgen.
I think this was my 5th time being certified over the years and I can honestly say I enjoyed your presentations of the material the most over all other providers we have had in. You had a practical and common sense approach with a huge amount of experience and knowledge to share in a very enthusiastic way.
We loved the scenarios on the second day. It was so much fun but also a good thinking and acting exercise, because anyone can pass a written test, but would we apply the knowledge in a real emergency. I am quite confident any of us would jump in and lead in an emergency situation and possibly save a life in the process.
All the best to you this year! Keep up the awesome job!
Tina Quinn, Eastgen
I have been certified in CPR/First Aid since 1988. Kieran was hands down the best instructor I've ever encountered.
...very knowledgeable and informative. I particularly like Kieran's use of real life examples to illustrate points being made. It made the material seem more relevant to most of us who have never had to use any type of CPR in real life.
...the best facilitator I've ever had!
